As a youngster I was introduced to an appreciation of nature by my grandfather Jim Cole, and well known naturalist Robert Sparks Walker.  I continued on in college by studying Wildlife and Fisheries.  Along the way I discovered a love and talent for working in copper and brass.

In 1976 I founded Natural Metals with my wife Gail in Jackson, Mississippi.  Together we became exhibiting members of the Craftsman’s Guild of Mississippi in 1978.  I later served on the Board of Directors and as President of the Guild.  In 1980 we created a full line of cookie cutters in copper, brass and stainless steel, eventually supplying over 200 shops nationwide as well as craft sections in JC Penny stores.  Custom cutters were also made for many commercial accounts and as “tools” for other crafts persons working in clay, porcelain and ceramics.  Gail passed away in 1998.

I continue to produce works in copper and brass and regularly add new designs.  In 1999 I was commissioned by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks to create a large (25’x30’x2 stories high) natural scene for their new office building in Jackson.  Three large brass trees (to 23’ ft high) and many native plants were constructed in copper and brass for this installation.  I currently work out of my studio near Uvalde, Texas and exhibit at numerous Arts & Crafts Shows in the region.  Individual instruction and commissions are welcome.
